A portal is another name for a homepage. In this case, our portal is www.ForBBBS.org. We encourage you to make this your homepage—the page your computer will automatically open to when you access your Internet browser.

The portal or homepage is a robust and dynamic source of information and services, including national and local news, sports, and entertainment. By logging in, you instantly access your BBBS e-mail. You also received automatically customized content and location of information on the page, making it truly unique to your interests and desires.

How do I log in to the portal/homepage?
You can log in to the portal/home page with the email address and password you used when creating your BBBS portal account. If you do have one, click on the "Create Account" link on the portal homepage to create an account. Log-in access is available in the upper right hand corner of the portal homepage.

How do I make the portal my homepage?
There are two ways to make the BBBS portal your homepage:
In Internet Explorer:
- The first is on the homepage itself. Go to www.ForBBBS.org and click on "Make this my homepage" in the right hand upper corner. You will be prompted to accept the URL as your homepage.
- In the Internet toolbar, click on "Tools." Click on "Internet options." On the "General" tab, type in www.ForBBBS.org in the homepage space, click on "use current," and then click on "Apply."
In Firefox:
- Click and drag the link that says: "To make this your homepage, drag this link onto your Home Button."

How do I set the portal as my homepage for multiple computers (work, home, laptops, etc.)?
To use www.ForBBBS.org as your homepage on multiple computers (work, home, laptops, etc.)
using your current registered email address, please follow these steps:
- Visit www.ForBBBS.org
- Log in using your current email address and password. This will bring up the homepage for BBBS chapter that you selected during the registration.
- Click the "Make www.ForBBBS.org My Homepage" link located at the top-left of the page.

How do I get back to the BBBS portal/homepage (main page)?
The portal has a homepage, plus many other pages that you typically access by clicking on components or channels. When you go to another page, simply click on your browser's "back" button or choose "Directory" and then "Home" at the left side of the page. If you have not set www.ForBBBS.org as your homepage, and you navigate to other URL addresses on the web (which will sometimes open a separate browser window), when you want to get back to www.ForBBBS.org, you have 3 options:
- Enter www.ForBBBS.org in the browser address bar to return to the homepage.
- Close any separate browser windows to return to the homepage.
- Click on the BBBS logo to return to the homepage.
This is another great reason to make the BBBS portal your homepage on the Internet.

What is a component?
A component is a section of the portal that is complete within itself offering dynamic and specific information. It can be moved or removed within the space of the portal when you are logged in. For instance: "3 Day Forecast" is the Weather component on the page.

How do I add/remove components?
To add content, you must first log in to the portal. Once logged in, click on the "Add Content" link in the welcome bar. From here, you may select any component you’d like to add through the categories provided. To remove, simply click on the blue 'X' in the top right corner of each desired component.

Can I move components?
Yes, there are two ways to move the components, though not all are movable. In order for either to work, you must be logged in to the portal.
- When you hover your mouse over a movable component, a two-way arrow will appear. Click and drag on
the arrow to move the component up or down within the column.
- Click on the "Add Content" link at the top of the page. "Add Content" is used to add/remove
content and/or to select the column you would like to see specific content in (many of the same
choices are available in each column). Choose which column you would like any specific content in by
checking the box next to it in the left, middle or right column. Be sure to click "Finish" when you
are done with your selections. Return to the homepage to see your changes.

How do I customize the TV Listings component on the homepage?
Several things can be customized within the TV Listings component. Click on "Settings" in the upper right hand corner of the component. You can adjust the following:
- Local Stations: Change the ZIP code to change the available stations.
- Select your service: Use the drop-down menu to customize your station listing based on your provider.
- Favorite Channels: Select from the list of available channels to choose your favorites. These are the channels that will show on the portal homepage.
- Default View: Choose to see TV shows in real time or what is showing in prime time. Click "Submit" after making your changes. This will return you to the BBBS homepage, where you can see your changes.

Using "Advanced Search" from the TV Listings component, you may search for shows by name, date, channel or category. You can sort them by date or title. And you can select how you would like your results displayed.

How do I customize Quicklinks?
Use Quicklinks for fast and easy access to your favorite websites. Safely store your information, and get one-click sign-in for many websites. To customize this component:
- While you are at the homepage and logged in: Add your own favorite web sites by clicking on "Configure." Type in the name and URL of a website you'd like to link to, and click "Add." The name space is limited to 14 characters. Continue this process as many times as you like. When finished, click "Finished."
- You can also choose from a list of popular websites: Click on "Configure," then click on "Configure" next to the website you want on the list. You may be prompted to enter a User ID and Password which will allow you to skip this sign in process from the Quicklinks component when you want to access it from your BBBS homepage.

How do I customize the Local page?
The Local page is accessed through the directory on the homepage. Once you log in or enter your ZIP code, the directory button will automatically populate with the name of the locale you have indicated. Instead of saying "Local," it may say, for example, "In Baltimore," or "In Portland."
The Local page may be customized whether you are logged in or not—by clicking on the local directory button, entering your desired ZIP code, and clicking "Go." If you have elected to place a the local component on your BBBS homepage, the content there will also reflect information for that ZIP code.

How do I update the Weather component?
Within the Weather component, there is a box where you can enter any ZIP code. Simply enter a ZIP code to see the weather conditions in the place you are interested in. Entering a ZIP code will change the location in the component; to change it back enter the original ZIP code. You can also change whether the display is reported in Fahrenheit or Celsius by choosing the corresponding icon in the top right of the component.

How do I update the Market Watch component/Add new stock symbols?
The Market Watch component functions in three ways:
- Stock Symbol Quickview of Price and Change: Right in the component, you can have up to seven of your favorite stocks show up (the default setting is for S&P 500 and NASDAQ). Simply click "Edit" and enter your stock symbols. (If you do not know your stock symbol, see that function.) Note: Editing your stock symbol will remove the S&P 500 and NASDAQ from the view.
- Get a Quote: Enter any stock symbol and click on enter or "go" to learn more about that stock. Entering a stock symbol will take you to another page for an in-depth view of the stock. You will see the following tabs:
- Market Summary
- Market Movers
- Sectors
- A-Z listings
- World Markets
- Splits
- CEO Wealthmeter
- Currencies & Calculators
- Symbol Look Up: Look up any company on the stock market by clicking on the "Symbol Look Up" button. In the search for box, enter the company's name, click enter or "Lookup," then click on the stock symbol that comes up or add it to your Stock Symbol Quickview.

The Multimedia Assistant determines if your computer has the necessary software to optimally use all of the services we have to offer. The Assistant examines your current configuration and indicates any necessary software updates in the table below. If all items list "OK" then you do not need to do anything. If some items show you should download software, then you can proceed by clicking on the links shown. The Media Assistant can be found by clicking "Downloads & Plug Ins" at the very bottom of the BBBS portal or in the directory on the left side of your homepage.

There are many helpful functions available through the toolbar. By adding the toolbar, you can have these functions available to you, no matter what Internet web page you are on. These functions include:
- Search: Looking for something? Type your phrase or word in the search box, and our Google-powered engine will find it for you.
- Highlight Search Term: Click on this button to automatically highlight the phrase or word you searched for throughout the page.
- News: Click on this tab and get the top ten most current news headlines. Click on a headline to view the full article on your BBBS portal
- Popup Blocker: The toolbar is equipped with a powerful no-nuisance feature that protects you from most pop-up ads.
- TV: Want to see what's on-now or later? Click to get right to the TV Listings channel.
- Movies: Check what's playing at your local theater. Click to get right to the Movies channel.
